Ladies Top 20 (Part 1)

Half of the top 20 girls are up tonight.  But this half will be halved by the end of the night–only five make it through to the next round.  Here’s hoping Vegas rocks!

1. Jenny Beth Willis

I did not like her song choice, and her voice did not come across as fantastic.  No star power here.  Next, please.

2. Tenna Torres

I did not like her song choice, either – Such a downer.  Also, she looks like she is 58, not 28—I have to agree with Nicki on her look—lose the hair, honey.

3. Adriana Latonio

Finally, a performance that impressed me!  This little girl is tiny and cute, but has a huge voice.  The last note was a bit shaky, but she can get there easily.  Good control, great confidence, so I really like this one.

4. Brandy Hotard

Her voice is competent—actually, it is really good.  But she needs to refine her performance skillz.  She should have picked a song she really understood and connected with.  Overall I don’t think she makes the cut.

5. Shuba Vidula

IMG_0493Born This Way by Lady Gaga

At the beginning  when she was sitting at the piano  I was all “this is going to be awesome.”  Then she got crazy with the standing, and the dancing, and the weird arranging, and it got a little messy.  Hot messy.  It was just too much.

6. Kamaria Oustley

imagesMr. Know It All by Kelly Clarkson

Ugh, honey, your pitch is all over the place—under the note, over the note.  It’s like she can’t hear herself on the big stage.  Furthermore, I think it was a bad song choice to feature her voice.  Another disappointment.

7. Kree harrison

Fantastic!  Effortless!  And finally, someone singing the right song!  I want to throw things at my TV because i am so excited about her!  It is clear she knows herself and knows what she’s doing.  Her polish and professionalism is a welcome addition to the idol stage.

8. Angela Miller

IMG_0495Nobody’s Perfect by Jessie J

She is fantastic, as well.  The judges gave her a bunch of feedback on her previous outstanding performance, and she will ride that wave for a while, but generally when a contestant becomes an early front-runner, they get beaten by a dark horse later down the line.  I really like Angela and I hope that doesn’t happen to her (That didn’t happen to Carrie, so there is hope!), but she needs to constantly raise the bar she sets for herself each week.  Hope you are up to the challenge, Angie!

9. Isabelle

IMG_0496God Bless The Child by Billie Holiday

This song was reminiscent of the McPhee era, but fits Isabelle’s voice very well.  Nice clarity, nice range, and she should be a solid performer if she gets to the live shows.

RATING:straight

10. Amber Holt

IMG_0497My Funny Valentine by Frank Sinatra

Awesome!  This girl is effortless with her vocal chops and technical ability.  Her stage presence leaves a little to be desired, but that will come in time as her confidence continues to build.  She seems very likeable, too.  She could go far in this competition! Plus, the blue suede shoes were a-rockin’.

My smileys are pretty clear on who I think should move on to the next round.  And I am four for five: Amber, Angela, Kree, Adriana, and Tenna make it through. The only surprise elimination tonight was Isabelle.  I thought she was leaps and bounds better than Tenna, who I thought was a hot mess.Tomorrow on to the boys!
